Rapid Assessment Program in Tambopata-Candamo

Between 1992 and 1994, Conservation International managed a program that assessed the biological diversity in the Tambopata National Reserve and the Pampas del Heath National Sanctuary, which are both located in the southern part of Peru. Although people do not reside within the boundaries of the area, inhabitants of nearby villages frequently obtain water, forage for edible plants and hunt some animals in the rainforest.

When assessing the condition of the area, the group documented the number of species of mammals, plants and birds that are living in the reserves. The organization would like the government of Peru to add the two preserves to the Madidi National Park.
