Guides at Posada Amazonas - Our guides are biologists, tourism professionals, or community members. All are trained in-house with a four month process that includes one month of field classes and a three month internship. Unless noted otherwise, our guides speak English. We assign guides at 10:1 ratio in Posada Amazonas and Refugio Amazonas, and at a 6:1 ratio at Tambopata Research Center. This means groups smaller than 10 people (or 6 people in TRC) will be merged with other groups under one guide. If you would like a private guide, a specialist guide or a guide in a language other than English please let us know.

Specialist guides are experienced naturalist guides who have developed a set of skills in a specific area that allows them to lead guests with very specific interests. These guides lead our workshops and expeditions but can also be hired by request.

Birding guide . Although all of our guides have basic bird identification skills, only a handful truly qualify as birding guides - able to identify hundreds of species by sound and sight. Our birdwatching expeditions include a trained birding guide.

Adventure Guide. A dventure guides are trained in kayaking, rapelling and mountain biking. Fishing skills may be dubious but are complemented with staff members lifelong expertise. Soft adventure programs include these guides.

Community guide . An English-speaking guide from the Communities of Infierno or Condenado on the Tambopata River provides unsurpassable wildlife spotting skills and an insight into daily life in the forest. Cultural programs are run by community guides.

Kids guide. One of our regular naturalist guides with a feel for kids is assigned to guests purchasing family programs . If solicited, a separate guide will be assigned to the rest of the family for regular activities.

Photography guide . Photography in the rainforest requires a lot of patience and luck. Our photography guides help with your equipment, provide subtle tips for improved use of blinds and maximize breaks with the weather and wildlife. Photography guides assist guests in photography expeditions .

Parrot Guides. All parrot guides have worked in the Macaw Research Project for at least one season. In this manner they are not only familiar with the different species of psittascines, but are also well acquainted with macaw biology and conservation. They also have plenty of anecdotes of life as a macaw researcher. All parrot lover programs are assigned parrot guides.
