Guiding and Interpretation Services
INTERPRETATION SERVICES
Our guides are tourism professionals, local townsfolk, or trained high Andean mountain guides (for treks). Not all of our guides, particularly local townsfolk, speak English. In those cases, your fee includes a translator. We have a maximum guest to guide ratio of 12:1 in the Andes because of the context of the environment - wide open spaces, little wildlife, etc. Also, because of specialization, your guide for the archeaological monuments may be different from the trekking or hiking guides. Your guides will accompany you throughout the activities, but not the transfers nor the meals. If you would like a private guide, a specialist guide or a guide in a language other than English please let us know.

Workshop Guides.
One of our regular naturalist guides with a feel for teaching is assigned to workshops. Our guides are tourism professionals, local townsfolk, or trained high Andean mountain guides (for treks). Not all of our guides, particularly local townsfolk, speak English. In those cases, your fee includes a translator. We have a maximum guest to guide ratio of 12:1 in the Andes because of the context of the environment wide open spaces, little wildlife, etc. Also, because of specialization, your guide for the archeaological monuments may be different. Guides do not accompany you on transfers, unless requested.

Seminar Instructors.
Seminars are conducted by a team of guides composed of naturalists for the ecology workshops, local guides for the cultural interactions, and professional guides for the archeological sightseeing. Not all of our guides, particularly local townsfolk, speak English. In those cases, a translator will be included. We have a maximum guest to guide ratio of 12:1 in the Andes because of the context of the environment - wide open spaces, little wildlife, etc. The instructors will not be on transfers, unless otherwise requested.

Trekking And Camping Services.
Explorandes operates all treks and camps for Konchukos Tambo. Camps are set up with four man Eureka tents as doubles. Sleeping pads are included, but not sleeping bags or other items of personal nature. A mess tent and kitchen tent complete the set up. Wake up calls are with tea and hot water basins for washing. Trek support includes pack animals (usually mules and donkeys) with experienced drivers, kitchen crew and commissary gear. All procedures in the field are controlled by an Environmental Management System Certified under ISO 14001.

High Andean Trekking Guides.
Trekking guides are trained in a three year program and officially certified by the High Mountain School (Escuela de Alta Montaña) to lead groups in this fragile ecosystem. Guides know how to navigate the unmarked Andean trails, how deal with the difficulties of cold weather and altitude and have the first aid skills and kit necessary to deal with emergencies.

Community Guides.
Cultural programs are run by local townsfolk who have received training to guide. They do not know English, but with the help of a translator will navigate us through communities and families in the Konchukos Valley. Because of specialization, your guide for the archeaological monuments may be different. The guide will not be on the transfers.

Archeaological Expedition Leaders.
Archeaological expeditions are conducted by a guide with an in depth knowledge of general Peruvian archaeology and some of the sites we visit. Complementing his or her knowledge is the site specific experience of the onsite guides.
