These lightweight cotton scarves and shawls and hand-made by women by women living on the outskirts of Guatemala City in an impoverished area called "Esperanza" (Hope).
These shawls were hand-woven by Burmese women in Thailand's refugee camps. There are very few opportunities for people to work and earn money to help their families in these camps.
