The “color” of Huito

Between November and December fruits the huito tree (Genipa Americana). Huito is among the local indigenous people one of the most traditionally used fruit as a natural dye. The dark blue coloration one gets from rubbing the clear colored substance against the skin and wait for a few hours was used by indigenous people to paint their bodies, hair and their clothes. Great to play jokes on your friends!

Charcot -Sacha

If you are into ehnobotany, the diversity of plants in the rainforest, but mainly the knowledge of the local communities will seem endless to you. Both at Posada Amazonas, as well as at Refugio Amazonas, you will have a chance to learn about the use of several plants by local communities.
Charcot-Sacha is a plant used to treat muscle pains, rheumatism and arthritis. In December this plant produces white and purple flowers that expel a strong odor like icyhot or menthol.
